My refrigerated counter does not keep its temperature, what should I do?

February 1st, 2023

Refrigerated counters are used in many areas to store products that need to be kept at a specific temperature to maintain their quality and freshness. These include restaurants, bakeries, cafeterias, and more! If your refrigerated counter is starting to lose its coolness, it is therefore essential to remedy the situation as soon as possible! In this blog, we suggest a few ways to help you with this problem.

Verifications

There are several things you may be able to try to solve this problem, such as checking the door and the thermostat. This may seem simple and ordinary, but it’s important to make sure everything is set up correctly!

First, check to make sure the refrigerator door is closed. If it’s ajar, it can prevent the refrigerator from maintaining the correct temperature.

Next, make sure the thermostat is set to the right temperature. If the thermostat is set too low, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the correct temperature.

Finally, check to see if the refrigerator is in automatic defrost mode. This may cause a temporary increase in temperature, as this mode allows the compressor to stop periodically to allow the ice to melt in the appropriate section. This function is usually activated automatically by the temperature control system, but it can also be activated manually by the user.

Cleaning

If the refrigerated countertop condensers are dirty, they will not be able to dissipate heat efficiently, which may prevent the proper temperature from being maintained. So, we advise you to clean the condensers. These are small black fins located on the back or bottom of the refrigerator. Here are some steps to follow to clean the condensers on your commercial refrigerated countertop :
– Unplug the refrigerator from the power supply to avoid the risk of electric shock.
– Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris from the condenser fins.
– Use a damp cloth to wipe down the condensers and remove any remaining dirt or grease.
– Use a specially formulated condenser cleaner (available at commercial supply stores) to remove any remaining grease and dirt.
– Rinse the condensers with clean water to remove any remaining cleaner.
– Dry the condensers with a clean cloth.
– Plug the refrigerator back in to start it up again.

These steps should be performed regularly to ensure the proper operation of your commercial refrigerated counter. It is recommended to clean the condensers every 3 months depending on usage and environment.

It is important to note that if the problem persists, it is best to call a repairman to avoid any deterioration of your food and determine if the cooling system is damaged. Contact the Frigotech team at 819-664-4788.
